Driveway Complete

Driveway Complete

total cost: @$372
$100 permits (burlington vermont is the worst!)
$137 turfstone pavers
$80 truck rental (overloaded with stone! bahahah)
$70 stone(which would have been way more per bag!)

$priceless..
the piece of mind that we will be able to work on our airstream in the back yard this coming year!
and our amazing awesome landlord is the best for seeing value in the fact that we added an extra permanent parking spot and split some costs with us!!! (cha ching!an investment in sustainability!)

it all started with paper... paper and more paper..
burlington.. my dear.. you really do kinda suck.

we had to get a zoning permit to make sure we didn't cover too much grass
then a building permit to make sure we did it right.
and another permit to close out all the other permits and be done. (blah!) I mean YAY!

then you may think.. just go to the store and pick up the stone and rocks... but the store didnt carry the turfstone pavers.. and we needed so much rocks!!
(short story:) I persuaded the stone company to carry the turfstone pavers in stock cause there awesome and the city said i could buy them there! yay!

then doug made measurements and we began to break ground!!

and more ground..
16" for first stone
2" for second stone
3" for pavers.. and back fill

and then we added big stones!!
and it was awesome to go to the stone place!!
(even thought they laughed at us in our tiny truck! lol)

and more stone!
(little stone.. aka pain in the ass stone!)

and then.. by some miracle.. we did it!!
ta-da!!!

it may not seem like a big deal.. but its the first "ground"breaking step towards our off-grid sustainable homestead life.. and we can't wait!
this year flew by!

this winter we will be brewing beer and hatching ideas and plans for the airstream we get this spring!

A Driveway

(open concept paver system)

Today we applied for a permit through the city of burlington, to construct an open concept paver system, upon which our airstream will sit while we renovate it for off-grid life!
(the city of burlington requires a "camper" to be parked on a driveway in our neighborhood.)

This is probably our first physical and financial step...
besides purging of material items
paying off all our debts
and changing our lifestyles for a more off-grid gear

a lot of excitement and dedication and motivation
we hope to have the pavers in before the frost.. so that this spring we can buy the airstream and start renovations immediatley!
